Fresh from our fields
Choosing fresh turf for a healthy new lawn
Fresh turf gives you an established-looking lawn far sooner than growing one from seed. TW Aggregates supplies cultivated lawn turf for new gardens, worn lawn replacement and landscaping projects, with rolls cut fresh to order and prepared for delivery. Our family-run team has worked with turf and landscaping materials since 2004, so you can order with practical guidance from people who understand how turf behaves from field to finished garden.
Planning your turf order
Measure the length and width of each lawn section in metres, calculate the area in square metres and add a small allowance for cuts, curves and shaping. For irregular gardens, divide the lawn into simple rectangles, triangles or circles and combine the totals. Our turf calculator can do this for you and helps reduce the risk of ordering too little. Turf is perishable, so prepare the ground before delivery and arrange to lay the rolls promptly after they arrive.
Preparing and caring for your new lawn
Good preparation is essential. Remove old grass and weeds, loosen compacted ground and create a level surface using suitable topsoil where required. Lay the first row against a straight edge, stagger the joints and keep every roll closely butted without stretching it. Water thoroughly as soon as laying is complete, then keep the soil beneath consistently moist while the roots establish. Avoid heavy foot traffic during this early period.
After laying, watch the edges and corners carefully because these areas can dry faster than the centre of a roll. Continue watering according to the weather and lift a corner occasionally to confirm moisture is reaching the prepared soil. Once the turf has rooted and cannot be lifted easily, gradually reduce watering frequency while applying enough water to reach the developing roots. Delay mowing until the turf is anchored, then use a high mower setting for the first cut.
Our turf is regularly irrigated in the field and harvested throughout the year whenever ground conditions allow. Whether you are improving a small domestic garden or ordering for a larger landscaping job, the products above provide a straightforward route to a dense, green lawn.
