Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about aggregates, ordering, delivery, collection and project preparation.

Topic 01

Ordering and products

How much aggregate do I need?

Use our aggregate calculator with the area and compacted depth of your project. Add a sensible allowance for compaction, settlement and uneven ground.

What is the difference between a bulk bag and a maxi bag?

Bulk bags are intended for larger projects, while maxi bags are convenient for smaller areas and topping up. Product pages show the supplied quantity for each item.

Which aggregate should I choose?

The right material depends on the application. MOT Type 1 is commonly used for sub-base, building sand for mortar and paving work, and decorative gravel for visible finishing areas.

Are the colours shown exact?

Aggregate is a natural material, so colour, texture and particle shape can vary between batches and may look different when wet or dry.

Can I order online?

Yes. Choose your products, enter the required delivery details and complete the available checkout options. Call 01902 784866 if you need help before ordering.

Topic 02

Delivery and collection

Can I collect my order?

Yes. Choose Click & Collect when available during checkout and wait for confirmation before travelling to the collection point.

How are aggregates delivered?

Orders are delivered kerbside using either our own forklift-equipped vehicles or a suitable third-party pallet courier.

Do I need to be at home?

Not always, but we require a working contact number and clear delivery instructions. Safe access and a suitable kerbside unloading point remain essential.

Can the driver take products behind my house?

No. Delivery is kerbside only and products cannot be lifted over walls, fences or hedges.

What if access is restricted?

Tell us about narrow roads, parked vehicles, slopes, gravel, height limits and other restrictions when ordering. Undisclosed restrictions can cause a failed delivery and additional charges.

What happens to the pallet?

The pallet remains with the customer and should be reused or disposed of responsibly.

Can I change my delivery date?

Contact us as early as possible. Changes requested close to dispatch are subject to availability and may incur redelivery or administration charges.

Topic 03

Using aggregates

How deep should my sub-base be?

Depth depends on the ground conditions, intended use and project design. Driveways and load-bearing areas generally need a more substantial compacted sub-base than pedestrian paths.

Do aggregates need compacting?

Sub-base and many construction aggregates should be laid in suitable layers and compacted with the correct equipment. Decorative stone is normally levelled rather than heavily compacted.

Should I use a membrane?

A suitable geotextile membrane can help separate aggregate from the soil and reduce weed growth, but the correct specification depends on the project and ground conditions.

Will gravel move on a slope?

Loose gravel can migrate on steep or heavily trafficked slopes. Edging, cellular stabilisation grids or a different surface may be required.

Can I mix products from different batches?

Natural colour variation is normal. For areas where appearance matters, order enough material together and blend bags during installation for a more even finish.
